Recent media reports on the mounting evidence of wholesale corruption in US reconstruction efforts in Iraq are symptomatic of the criminal nature of Washington’s war and occupation from their inception nearly six years ago. These crimes are continuing under the Obama administration, with no end in sight.

The suicide rate is the highest it has been in three decades, and a week-long series of articles at Salon.com has been highlighting what it calls "habitual mistreatment behind the preventable deaths." "In January, we lost approximately 24 soldiers in the Army to suicide. That's more folks than we lost in combat. ... Driving through Fallujah, once the most rebellious Sunni city in Iraq, I saw little evidence of any kind of reconstruction underway. At least 70% of that city's structures were destroyed during massive US military assaults in April, and again in November 2004, and more than four years later, in the "new Iraq", the city continues to languish.

Mark Weber betoogt in het artikel “Iraq: A War For Israel”, dat de aanval van de VS op Irak bedoeld was om Israel te beschermen. Israel had zelf al sinds 1996 plannen klaar liggen om Irak aan te vallen, en de grootste gunst die de VS bondgenoot Israel kon leveren was dit karwei te klaren voor Israel.
Over de massavernietigingswapens van Irak en banden met Al-Qaida meldt Mark Weber:
“These claims were untrue. As the world now knows, Iraq had no dangerous “weapons of mass destruction,” and posed no threat to the US. Moreover, alarmist suggestions that the Baghdad regime was working with the al-Qaeda terror network likewise proved to be without foundation.”
Een motief voor de aanval op Irak: “Six months before the attack, President Bush met in the White House with eleven members of the US House of Representatives. While the “war against terrorism is going okay,” he told the lawmakers, the United States would soon have to deal with a greater danger: “The biggest threat, however, is Saddam Hussein and his weapons of mass destruction. He can blow up Israel and that would trigger an international conflict.”
“Bush also spoke candidly about why the US was going to war during a White House meeting on Feb. 27, 2003, just three weeks before the invasion. In a talk with Elie Wiesel, the well-known Jewish writer, Bush said: “If we don’t disarm Saddam Hussein, he will put a weapon of mass destruction on Israel and they will do what they think they have to do, and we have to avoid that.”
Uiteindelijk lijkt er een zeer grote tegenstrijdigheid te zijn. Israel wil dat vijandige regimes in het Midden-Oosten worden verdreven. Maar de aanval op Irak heeft alleen maar haat gezaaid tegen de VS.

Is Obama's 16-month withdrawal timetable slipping?
Responding to a request by President Barack Obama, top military and diplomatic advisers on Iraq have submitted a report to the White House that spells out the risks of drawing down U.S. forces in Iraq over periods as long as 23 months, two defense officials told McClatchy.
According to the McClatchy Newspapers, "Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, the top military commander in Iraq, and Ryan Crocker, the outgoing U.S. envoy there, with input from Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of the U.S. Central Command, provided "a unified assessment" to the White House in recent days, an official close to Petraeus said.

Iraq's oil minister says he expects to reach an agreement with Tehran regarding the exploitation of the two countries' joint oil fields.
Iraq has shared oil fields with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iran.
Iraqi Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahristani said that an oil deal between Iran and Iraq would be signed in accordance to the international treaty of joint oil and gas fields.
